PROFESSOR KURT MILLS – Principal Investigator
Prof Mills joined the University of Dundee as Professor of International Relations and Human Rights in July 2017. Prior to this, he was Senior Lecturer in International Human Rights at the University of Glasgow, and founder and convenor of the Glasgow Human Rights Network.
He has taught at Gettysburg College, James Madison University, Mount Holyoke College, and the American University in Cairo, and served as Assistant Director of the Five College Program on Peace and World Security Studies at Hampshire College. He has also held visiting positions at the Asia-Pacific Centre for the Responsibility to Protect, University of Queensland; the School of Advanced Study, University of London; Institute of Human Rights, Addis Ababa University; and the Watson Institute for International Studies, Brown University. He is currently a Senior Fellow of the Canadian Centre for the Responsibility to Protect and a member of the European Network of the European Centre for the Responsibility to Protect.
He also serves as the Vice-Chair of the Academic Council on the United Nations System. He previously was Vice President of the International Studies Association (ISA), and founded the human rights section of ISA. In January 2018, he was appointed Editor of the journal “Global Governance”
He received his MA and PhD from the University of Notre Dame, and his BA from Hampshire College.
